Kevin Smith has risen from the abyss not just to direct Clerks 3, but also to direct Tusk, a horror picture about a crazy scientist obsessed with the issue, âIs man, in fact, a walrus at heart?!â Originally intended as a podcast, Smith wrote the whole thing in less than a week. Smith said in a guest piece for The Hollywood Reporter that the film rekindled his creative juices: âAs stoned as I am, this walrus film was beginning to seem like a worthwhile undertaking â or at the very least, a film I would want to see.â (The item was removed due to its excessive spoilers, but it was cached here. Justin Long stars as an adventurous podcaster whose fascination with strange adventure stories leads him to the backwoods of Canada and to the house of Howard Howe (played by Michael Parks), the guy who tells tall tales. It's a cross between Misery and a Hammer Horror picture.
Tusk began production in November and has been in post-production ever since. While no release date has been set, the film is scheduled to open in traditional theaters somewhere in the third quarter of this year. Hopefully, it will arrive in the weeks leading up to Halloween, which means we will see the first trailer in the coming months. Despite the fact that the advertisement was a fake, it served as the germ of a concept for a film. âSomething broke in my head, which has only occurred once before in my life,â Smith said. That other time was twenty years ago, when I pondered why no one made films about me and my buddies discussing movies, pussycats, and Star Wars. That is what I did, and it was Clerks.â
