Jaguar's XJ saloon was a full-size premium sedan. The model was produced from 1968 until 2019, with the first generation being the last Jaguar to be designed by the company's founder, Sir William Lyons, however this is contested, as some Jaguar historians assert that Lyons' influence ended with the second generation XJ, the XJ40 series. The XJ40 was introduced in 1986 and underwent two significant redesigns in 1994 (X300) and 1997 (X308) throughout a 17-year manufacturing life. The third generation XJ, the X350, appeared in dealerships in early 2003, and although the outward and interior style remained classic, the vehicle was totally re-engineered. Its styling drew widespread criticism from motoring journalists, who claimed that the car looked dated and was barely more modern than its predecessor, with many claiming that the 'Lyons line' had been lost in the translation from XJ40 to X350 XJ, despite the fact that beneath the shell was a highly advanced aluminum structure that placed the XJ near the top of its class. [61] Jaguar reacted to the criticism in 2009 with the unveiling of the fourth generation XJ. Its external style departs from previous XJs, adopting a more young, modern posture in line with the company's XF and XK models. [62]
While the infotainment system is the most noticeable change to the I-interior, Pace's the good news is that the remainder of the cabin did not need updating. The seats and door panels are upholstered in luxurious and silky leather, the dashboard is wrapped in a swath of squishy-soft plastic, and the numerous switches and buttons all feel excellent. The temperature and fan speed of the dual-zone climate control system, as well as the heated and ventilated front seats, are all adjustable through a visible pair of dials on the center stack, each of which has a tiny screen in the center. You can activate various features by pushing or pulling on these knobs, which is a terrific concept (in principle) since it eliminates clutter. In reality, though, this arrangement requires some adjustment and mental processing to remember which dosages correspond to which. Additionally, the dials themselves seem a little frail, clicking loudly when pushed or pulled. Apart from that, there is a tiny 5.5-inch screen for controlling various climate-related operations, however it seems out of place and washed out.
