Cho and Penn continue to be the series' greatest elementsâit's difficult to see the first installment thriving without their warmth and friendship. Penn even gets to demonstrate his genuine acting abilities in a flashback to college, when Vanessa assisted him in breaking out of his geek shell. The guys keep Harold and Kumar entertaining, even when the gags get dull and monotonous. The same is true for Neil Patrick Harris, who makes earnest attempts to differentiate his on-screen identity from the character he portrays each week on How I Met Your Mother; it works only when Harris consumes mushrooms, something no one else on CBS primetime ever gets to do. Harold and Kumar is a little more obscene than Judd Apatow's regular entertainment, and hence will lack the broad appeal of the similarly stoned Knocked Up. However, its devotees will leave the theater satisfied. That is, if they ever make it to the theater in the first place. You know how difficult it is to smoke in a public setting.

Plot In the aftermath of Harold & Kumar Harold Lee and Kumar Patel go on a journey to Amsterdam in order for Harold to explore a blossoming relationship with his neighbor, Maria. They stumble across a college buddy called Colton and Kumar's ex-girlfriend, Vanessa, who are getting married in Texas. A lady fears Kumar is a terrorist on the flight after mistaking his bong for a bomb. The couple is detained by sky marshals, and the jet is diverted to Washington, D.C. Against the advise of NSA Vice-Chairman John Beecher, Ron Fox, an obsessive and bigoted Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, sends them to the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba, believing they are operatives of a combined Al-Qaeda and North Korean plot. Harold and Kumar escape and board a Cuban refugee boat bound for Miami, Florida, with the unwitting aid of two other convicts. They reconnect with a college acquaintance, Raza, who lends them a vehicle so they may fly to Texas and seek assistance from Colton, whose family has political ties.
This time, they're fleeing the establishment.

A welcome reprieve from political correctness
In a world gone insane, where reality television humiliates and tears every shred of decency from human beings, both the participants and the mindless minions who watch countless hours of reality drivel (funny that these are the same people who find Harold and Kumar rude, crude, and offensive), and countless romantic comedies and dull Diaz and Sandler un-comedic vehicles, comes the throwback that is Harold and Kumar. Excellent acting and writing, with every cliche and grossness imaginable tossed in for good measure. No group is exempt from the continuous bombardment, which had me smiling from beginning to finish. It was hilarious to see Neil Patrick Harris as a foul-mouthed stoner and the continual stereotyping of everyone from rednecks to terrorists.
