University of Marmara
Marmara University is one of Turkey's oldest institutes of higher learning. Marmara University was founded in a home behind the Istanbul High School for Girls in Caolu on 16 January 1883 under the name Hamidiye Ticaret Mekteb-i lisi and is linked with the Commercial, Agriculture, Forestry, and Mining industries. The first graduates (13 students) enrolled in 1887. The school was associated with the Education Ministry on 21 September 1889; in 1893, it was shuttered with the intention of reforming and reopening in the near future.
