Buttigieg, who served as mayor of South Bend from 2012 to 2019, made history earlier this year by becoming the Senate's first out homosexual Cabinet member. He became the first homosexual presidential contender to win a primary election last year, after barely winning the Iowa caucuses. Buttigieg is also the youngest individual to run the Department of Transportation, having taken the helm at the age of 39.
Chasten couch surfed or slept in his vehicle in the community college parking lot until his mother relented a few months later and invited him to come back home. 'He [Chasten] was apprehensive about being involved with a politician, and he said, you know, "How does your future look?" And I informed him,' Buttigieg previously said on the LGBTQ&A podcast. Thus, he reminds me of it today, and we discuss our crazy lives, since I doubt any of us could have predicted even a year and a half ago where life would lead us,' he said.
Buttigieg, a veteran of the Afghanistan war who continues to use by the moniker 'Mayor Pete,' has swiftly established himself as a rising star in the Democratic Party. As his presidential campaign began to fade in early 2020, his support of Joe Biden aided the future president in securing the party's nomination. When Buttigieg was unanimously approved by the Senate to serve as Vice President Biden's transportation secretary, admirers applauded him for cracking a centuries-old political barrier for LGBTQ Americans.
