Another factor that appeals to her is the show's unvarnished portrayal of actual life. Set against gorgeous landscapes and tropical beaches, it's a sunny combination of vintage automobiles and established stars (Amanda, Neil, and Poirot's Philip Jackson) and newcomers, like Amrita Acharia and James Floyd. However, the program is written by former physician Dan Sefton, and interspersed among the visual delights are grim worries about blood, bones, death, and surgical procedures. âBeauty and ugliness coexist in reality,â says Amanda. âWe do not shy away from it, and we should not.â Amanda has had her share of adversity. Desperate to have a child with Damian, she suffered nine miscarriages and two ectopic pregnancies before giving up at the age of 53. Amanda Redman is an actress with a strong screen presence who also happens to be an excellent performer. I thought she was terrific in the early seasons of "New Tricks," and when she departed, I felt the program had suffered a loss. Imagine my amazement when she appears in India as a Hospital Administrator at 'The Good Karma Hospital.' She was destined for the job and excels in it. I have to strongly disagree with one critic who suggested that it was a remake of 'Casualty' relocated to India from England. I watched a few episodes of this program over the years and found it to be a complete waste of time with nothing to recommend it save for some nice acting in spots. However, when it comes to the 'Good Karma Hospital,' we are urged to put our feet up, relax, and enjoy some terrific comedy and superb performance from the rest of the group.
