Golden Artist Colors, Inc. was founded in June 1980 in a restored 900 square foot barn. Sam, his wife Adele, son Mark, and daughter-in-law Barbara Golden, together with partner Chuck Kelly, established a new organization to symbolize Sam's commitment to professional artists, which Sam defined as "creating tools for artists." Financially, the first four years were difficult. Sam and Adele made every effort to keep the firm afloat. Mark traveled to New York City on a weekly basis to sell items to artists and continue the dialogue that had made Bocour so popular.
